Rescue Remedy

Although not a remedy in its self, Rescue Remedy is the best known of the Bach Flower Remedies. People who have never heard of the other remedies will relate to Rescue Remedy. They will have either used it themselves or know someone who has, and will be able to vouch for its effectiveness.

Rescue Remedy helps to prevent, or quickly overcome the energetic trauma that would otherwise have serious physical consequences. Anything that depletes our energy is called an energetic trauma - the sudden slam of a door, bad news, or an accident, which may or may not involve the loss of consciousness. Under these types of conditions, consciousness, or the subtle elements in our bodies, have the tendency to withdraw from the physical body, and is therefore not able to initiate self-healing processes.

Rescue Remedy prevents the disintegration of the energetic system, or quickly restores it to normal.

Rescue Remedy contains five flower essences.

The five remedies chosen from the thirty eight available, address the immediate or potential issues of shock and trauma. They are:

Star of Bethlehem - For trauma and numbness

Rock Rose - For terror and panic

Impatiens - For irritability and tension

Cherry Plum - For fear of losing control of the mind

Clematis - For the tendency to "pass out", or the sensation of being "far away" that often precedes unconsciousness.

A bottle of Rescue Remedy contains all five essences ready mixed and is considered as one remedy. Rescue Remedy can be purchased from a health shop, or your holistic animal therapist can make up a bottle for you.

It can be purchased as a spray, but this is rather an expensive option, and generally animals don't like sprays.

USES

Rescue Remedy is handy to have around at all times so that it can be taken before an anticipated "stress" or immediately afterwards.

1. As "First Aid" or "Emergency" drops, Rescue Remedy is invaluable for the victim while waiting for veterinary or medical help, but of course does not replace qualified assistance. Use in any emergency, great or small, as even after a slight accident some emotion is usually experienced.

2. At an accident it can also help the "Bystanders" to keep calm and confident. This is very reassuring for the injured, so take some yourself if you are helping, and keep the adrenalin levels under control!!

3. Mental Turmoil. After a "family row", on receipt of "bad news" and for coping with sorrow. For animals when the family is upset. Animals, especially dogs, but also cats sense the atmosphere and become upset too.

4. For impending visits. To the dentist, interviews, performing, going to the vets, teaching your horse to load, first sessions of shoeing, clipping, early handling. For both of you when competing.

5. After anesthetics, helps to prevent that panicky spacey feeling.

6. Externally as compresses or packs to stop bleeding. As a wash to bathe a painful area. Can also be used as a cream.

7. Plants. After re-potting, planting out, exposure to frosts etc.

8. For stunned birds. Put one or two drops into their beaks.

HOW TO USE RESCUE REMEDY

Acute Situations

Add four drops of Rescue Remedy to a glass of water. This should be sipped frequently. As the patient grows calmer it can be given at increasing intervals, e.g. fifteen minutes, half hourly, hourly.

Can be given neat at four drops per dose.

If the patient is unable to sip the water or if he is unconscious the remedy can be rubbed on the lips, gums, behind the ears, on the inside of the wrists or on any mucous membrane. It can also be stroked on the hair of dogs and cats.

For Longer Use

A remedy bottle can be made by adding four drops of stock Rescue Remedy to a 25-30 ml bottle (dark glass) of spring water. A stock bottle can be purchased from a health shop. This will keep about 6 weeks. A purchased remedy bottle has some alcohol in it and will keep longer if stored out of the sun and in a cool place.

Dose: Four drops when needed or as above. Large animals can have 10 drops in a bucket of water if more convenient.

Compresses, Packs and Washes: Use approximately six drops from the stock bottle to a pint of water.

N.B. Rescue Remedy should not become a form of routine medication. It is indicated as first aid in lesser or greater emotional emergencies, but it is not intended to make up for a life style that threatens to destroy the personality through lack of common sense.
